Wahaca - London (UK)

Eating out & Restaurant Reviews

Wahaca is another allergy friendly restaurant. Their allergen menu is detailed and clear and it is suitable for coeliacs, vegetarian, vegan and most food allergies.
For people with milk, celery, garlic or onion allergy it may be a bit more tricky for you to choose a dish but if you need to avoid gluten, fish, shellfish, peanuts, nuts, sesame or soya, you are in the right place.
I have been here many times and this was one one of my last dining experiences before lockdown arrived (again)

I have to say I was a bit reluctant to write about this place as the founder Thomasina Miers was one of the chefs criticising the introduction of the EU allergen labelling rules that came into effect in December 2014. Strange from a chef who says she used to have severe food allergies. It seems like her team ended up doing a good job as the staff, at least in Wahaca in Angel (London) are super helpful and reassuring with cross-contamination.

What do I eat there?

- I love nachos
- Grilled mushorrom & cheese tacos
- Grilled chicken & avocado tacos

- Black bean & three cheese Quesadillas
- Mushroom enchilada
- Sweet potatoes

There's a deep fried section in the allergen menu - if you have a nut or peanut allergy, you are completely safe even if your dish has been deep fried as they don't use any of these ingredients in their deep frierssmiley
Please always double check with the restaurant and check up the menu online before you order. They generally offer takeaways / click & collect in lockdown
